If you are out west and not ready for OVW, Buddy Wayne will get you ready. And when he says you're ready, you're ready for OVW. -- OVW trainer and wrestling legend Rip Rogers

The Buddy Wayne School of Wrestling -- otherwise known as Ohio Valley West -- is located in beautiful Everett, WA, 28 miles from downtown Seattle and just minutes from I-5.

The cost is $250 down and $25 per two-hour class, with classes available to suit most schedules. There is no limit to the number of times you can come to train. Some wrestlers continue to come to the school months and years after they've had their first professional match. In this business, the day you think you know everything is the day that you have been passed by. There is always something new to learn.

Buddy Wayne Wrestling Academy Q&A:

What do I need to sign up for the school?

$250 down on arrival, NO REFUNDS, and $25 there after per class (2-3 hrs.)

Are there any requirements or a background needed in amateur wrestling?

No. This isn't an easy business, physically or mentally. If you're 30 and unemployed, this isn't going to help you learn a "trade." If you are trying to make money, which means make it to WWE/TNA, they aren't going to invest money in someone they see no potential return in. Your best years physically are behind you. If you want to try this because you have always wanted to, I can help you there.

What kind of shape should I be in?

Watch t.v. and you'll see what they look for. If your "exercise" is weekend softball or you look like your neighbor physically, you will need work. Everyone can change their muscular appearance. And I can help you as you train. If you say, "I'll workout for 6 months and THEN see if there are any openings", you are now 6 months closer to retirement.

I'm glad I found a trainer in the same state I live in.

That shouldn't matter. If you want to "make it," and I don't mean at the local Boys and Girls Club once a month for free, then distance doesn't matter. Harley Race in Missouri, Lance Storm in Calgary, and OVW in Kentucky are 3 of the best. But they aren't arranging classes for your schedule or coming to where you live. If you want to be a great doctor do you find the nearest Community College? Hell no, you do whatever it takes to make it to a top college. Some guys want to make it to the top and some want to say they tried it. I've had students from 18-50 years old. Even the guy at 50 said "at least I tried it."

And last, do you help in getting a 1st match when/if I make it?

Yes. But it's up to you to go out and find a show that will give you a chance. I'll even make the call to the "promoter" and tell them you're ready to start. It's a lot tougher then it looks or may seem, but having that "1st match" is something you will never forget. Research any school you want to go to and make sure the trainer has been somewhere, not trying to take your money because they suck and can't get on shows themselves. Wrestling in 2009 means 5 years experience = 50 matches, and that's being generous. But you don't want to be 50 years old and say "I wish I would have at least tried."

Students learn at their own pace and you will never be asked to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing.
